With the recent passage of Ohio Revised Code 3313.6031, which addresses weighting Career-Technical Education Advance Standing (CTAG/ITAG) courses, SWOCA met with our Career Tech Centers to determine the best approach for implementing these changes moving forward.
I believe each Career Tech Center with SWOCA have already communicated with its partner districts about this update and they will be providing a list of CTAG/ITAG courses that qualify as weighted courses under the new law.
The first step for districts is to review your local policy on weighted courses and determine whether any updates will be made for the 2025–2026 school year based on this new legislation.
From our discussions, it’s my understanding that your Career Tech team will verify which courses are considered CTAG courses—not just for this year, but also for the past 4–5 years. Be sure to include any satellite CTAG courses from those years as well.
Once you have that information:
Confirm your weighted grading scales are correctly set up in SI for each year, according to your district’s policy. (This setup is specific to your district/building, not the Career Tech Center.)
Update the CTAG courses in SI with the appropriate weighting on the Marks tab—for both the current and previous years. This includes all CTAG and satellite CTAG courses.
The most time-consuming step will likely be updating course history for students whose records were imported from the Career Center (for example, seniors who took CTAG courses as juniors). Those courses will need to be manually updated in the corresponding year.
Please note that this process applies only to CTAG courses, not all courses, and it is based on your District Policy.
